Dr. Maria Vaz, Vice President of LTU Visiting SIT

On the morning of June 13, Dr. Maria Vaz, Vice President of Lawrence Technological University, U.S.A. accompanied by Prof. Winston Yan visited our school. Dr. Prof. Ye Yinzhong, Vice President of Shanghai Institute of Technology in charge of international cooperation met with the distinguished guests and had a cordial talk with them. Dr. Ye, first of all , reviewed the progress in cooperation that had been made ever since the first visit by Dr. Prof. Lewis Walker, President of Lawrence Technological University in March, 2011 , especially since the visit in July, 2011 by Dr. Prof. Lu Guanzhong, President of Shanghai Institute of Technology.

The second half of the year of 2011 saw the visit by the Dean of the Department of Architecture from Lawrence Technological University to School of Urban Construction and Safety Engineering of Shanghai Institute of Technology. Prof. Peng, Dean of School of Urban Construction and Safety Engineering of SIT and Prof. Glen, Dean of Department of Architecture from LTU discussed issues concerned in detail and signed a supplementary agreement with regard to the cooperation in “3+2” project.

During the talk, both parties discussed and reached consensus on the following points: “3+2” students’ exchange program, “Study Abroad” program and faculty development and exchange. Prof. Peng expressed the strong desire to invite the eminent professors from LTU to join us in the application for “Chair Professors”. Prof. Xu Jiayue, Dean of School of Material Science & Engineering also gave a brief introduction on the construction of “Construction Materials” and invited the professors from LTU to offer advice and give us their generous support in this regard.

Both parties expressed their desire to spare no efforts to push ahead the cooperation between the two schools.

Participating in the discussion were the representatives from School of Urban Construction & Safety Engineering, School of Material Science & Engineering and Department of International Co-operation.
